In the following Tweedie/Tweedy are interchangeable.
In 1840 John Tweedie is born in Dumfreisshire, son of Evan (Ewan).
An MCert shows John Tweedie son of Evan marries Mary Corr in Cockermouth Q1 1867.
A BCert Shows Rosanna daur of John Tweedy and Mary Corr is born in Cockermouth Q4 1867. I am told the baptism entry says ‘born in the workhouse’. BCert has address a few doors away from the official workhouse address.
In 1871 Census at Papcastle, village of Goat. Mary Tweedy, married, and Rosannah but I can’t find John.
Then it gets interesting –
In 1881 I can’t find Mary and Rosannah – but in .1886 Q4 Rosannah Tweedie marries John Kenyon, registered Cockermouth.
In 1890 Q3 a Mary Tweedie. married in Cockermouth, is this Mary Corr remarrying? I can’t find a death of John Tweedie.
AND
A John Tweedie marries Ellen Turner in 1873 Q4 Tynemouth. The 1881, 91, 1901,11 censuses are consistent for this family. John Tweedie is from Scotland and the correct age. The only appropriate John Tweedie I have found and no appropriate death found.
So – is this a bigamous marriage?
Where are Mary & Rosannah (Rose after her marriage to James Kenyon) in 1881
Where is John Tweedie in 1871?
Can anyone offer any help or clarify any of this.
These are possibly Roman Catholic families.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
