Flanagan from Sixmilebridge
« on: Tuesday 14 February 12 04:00 GMT (UK) »
My GGGGrandmother was born in Sixmilebridge on Dec 20 1842. Her name was Mary Ann Flanagan. Her mothers surname was Russell. She left Ireland about 1855-60 and lived in New York. She married
Luke Manning. I don't know if she married before she left Ireland, or after arriving in New York.
Any information about her or family would be very greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for tips or any other help!

Patty

Do you know where they lived in New York?  Do you have them on any US census records?  Many of them are available for free at www.familysearch.org.

Thank you for the replies. I have information about the Flanagan family once they have arrived in the US, but I know nothing about them and the family in Ireland.  I only know Mary Anns date of birth, location of birth and her mothers surname. I would love to find out more from Ireland.
Thanks again,
Patty

Do you have any additional information about her Mary Ann's family in the US, such as her chidren?  Do you know when and where she and Luke died?  Sometimes, you need to work forward to go backward.  Things like census records, children's births, and obituaries may give us some indication as to when they immigrated and married.

This is interesting. I live in Ireland and my mother's name is Flanagan (later O'Flanagan) and they hail (I think) from Sixmilebridge. Her father, my grandfather Patrick Flanagan was born in Sixmilebridge in 1903. His father, my great-grandfather was also called Patrick Flanagan and was born around 1870 ish. I do not know where but reportedly in Co. Clare. Was it in Sixmilebridge? No idea. My gg Grandfather's father (according to his marriage cert) was called Daniel Flanagan born I guess around 1840-50. Can't identify if he was from Clare even..I assume he might have been, and it might have been SMB ..its a wall in my family but there is a definite SMB link from the 1880s anway and possibly earlier.
