First time I've ever seen the "and enlarged to the life size" notation on the back.

George Waters was based in Windermere in the 1850s but then moved to Bowness. Would the Windermere address still have been on the card after the move?

Or was there more than one George Waters?

Well, old cardstock, but it wouldn't be cardstock from the 1850s because card-backed photography wasn't invented yet. Ambrotypes mostly.

I have a couple of cards with 'enlarged to lifesize' on the back China.I wonder if anyone ever took up the offer.

I wouldn't have expected to see it until the 1890s, George. Then they were enlarged but fuzzy.

I would have to trawl through them China,but here's one I already have scanned offering it,dated 1881.

Interesting. Before the invention of the photographic enlarger, so it would have to be from the neg I suppose.

I wonder if they projected the image,then painted it by hand.Be difficult to fit in an album
