Desparately Seeking Edward George Taylor
« on: Wednesday 22 February 12 02:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have undertaken the search for our family roots on behalf of myself and  my two brothers. I have been reading all I can and surfing the web trying to find information on my grandfather Edward George Taylor.

Hew as born on the 7th December 1902 - but where we do not know- and died on 12 October 1968 in Singapore.
He is buried there. _ I have had no luck tracing via Singapore

He was married to Connie Jane Batchelor.

We know he was sent as a POW to the Thailand Death Railway to work during WW2.

He has a brother who is quite well known... actor /film producer Donald F J Taylor who was born in 1920 on December 13/14  and died  on 29 December in 1998.

I can find some info on my great granduncle Don but nothing of my grandad. As he had a common name there are lots of links that come up but dont fit him...

any ideas anyone.....no one living ie my dad can give me any info

thanks

Hi,
FreeBMD lists only 2 births in the December Quarter of 1902:-
TAYLOR Edward George, 1902 Shaftesbury 5a 197 Dec Qtr
TAYLOR Edward George, 1902 Bristol 6a 106 Dec Qtr
He must be one of these.

Do you have any idea where Edward & Connie married?

I can't find a match TAYLOR/BATCHELOR on FreeBMD http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Obtaining their marriage certificate would give you his  father's name & occupation and may help find him on 1911 census - we cannot do look ups but it's free to search and you need credits to view

http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx

EDIT

Thanks gortonboy - that answers the question about the marriage  :)

perhaps these two topics can be merged by the moderator as to avoid any duplication

Thank you so much for the help...

the problem I have had is where to look...?

I posted in the Welsh thread too as I was told we had welsh roots...

I think they could have been married in Singapore....my uncle was born there maybe a year later in 1936? so they married in 1935?

I can look up on ancestry .com..( I have some credits ). but don't know what to look under ...sorry I have just started out on this...

His younger brother was born in the US in 1920...and I have found some document of a George Edward Taylor arriving in San Francisco on 30 June 1920 on a ship called Eurymachus. He was aged 17 - and that kind of matches with his birth date age....

forgot to add that ship left from Singapore port

but how to be sure?

but how then does he end up in Singapore again to marry grandma..???

gosh they dont stay put huh??

I should talk I am writing now from a high country sheep station in the wilds of New Zealand!!!

I am so grateful for the direction ...(((hugs)))

I wonder if you don't get any luck with Edward if Donald's family would have any information on their parents

You've probably seen this on Donald's life

Yes I have...It was wonderful to see him ( picture) for the first time...the only other pic I have of his is in grandpa's wedding pic....he was very young.

my partner and I were even looking at the flowers in the wedding for clues...!!

I know even less of Uncle Donald's family - only heard about him after he died and we were contacted by lawyers...I think I have his social security no in the US...( Donald's)   - will that give me info on my grandad ( ie mutual parents) ??

Hi

When you were contacted by the Lawyer's did they explain how they found that you were related to Donald, surely they would have done some Genealogy to come to this conclusion????
