Just been having a read on the history of Father Hudson's Society here www.fatherhudsons.org.uk/index.php?/site/Sochistory/ (gosh, I always get sad when I read this material  :'().

From their site you have:

www.fatherhudsons.org.uk/index.php?/site/familyplacementsoriginscanadaandaustralia/services_for_former_child_migrants/

http://www.fatherhudsons.org.uk/index.php?/site/familyplacementsoriginscanadaandaustralia/providing_information_from_our_records_to_former_child_migrants/

Other links showing to the side of Adoption Support, Fostering & Origins tab.

Dawn, family Roman Catholic if this is where Matthew was sent to?

Hi Monica,

I can only guess Matthew was Catholic, due to Father Hudson's organization and that when he arrived in Canada he was sent to St. George"s Home in Ottawa, Ontario which was Catholic, as well. On the LDS site, Family Search, some info to Matthew John Fitzpatrick's death certificate is on their site. It says he was born April 2, 1912 in Glasgow, Scotland and died Feb 12,1977 in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. I have ordered a copy of his death certificate from the B.C. Archives. I will be asking for an archive search from Father Hudson's , shortly. The identity of the brother from Glasgow is a puzzler. Also, why Birmingham?

Thank you,
Dawn

Hi Dawn

Lots of questions certainly.

The birth cert will be likely the main start for you. Like you, not sure why Birmingham. Have sometimes seen children sent to homes in various places, although usually around Scotland.

Did see this yesterday www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=26352524 which fits with what you have as a death date for him.

Trying to work through on dates and ages and all that. Matthew left in 1927 aged 14, b. 1912. If he gave his brother as next of kin in the UK, you would think that he was older than him and living independently in Glasgow at the address given.

Gives some hope that once we know parents' names, you may be able to find them with some children/siblings to Matthew on the 1911 census.
