Three Things to Decipher
« on: Monday 27 February 12 13:41 GMT (UK) »
Hello, more help needed with a decipher if anyone can help please.

Firstly, what is the meaning of the writing at the bottom of the column where it states female?

Secondly, what is the occupation children's ? nurse?

Finally, widow of Robert Cox a jeweller what is the word in brackets?

Many thanks
Ewan

The word in brackets is, I think, Master.

Agree with Jen,master as opposed to journeyman. So top of his trade.

(though I'm not sure if jewellers had journeymen)

I think the "word" at the top is an alteration number (070 perhaps) that relates to something on the original entry, but not on this copy.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Thank you for all your replies.  Master certainly makes sense for that word with the gentleman concerned, looks like the number entry in the column where it states female may not be relevant to anything. :-\

Anyone have any ideas to the full occupation?

Thank you
Ewan

Hello Jan, I think it is children's 'something' nurse, I am wondering what the 'something' says.

Ewan, Geoff pointed out the likely explanation for the something, in his reply, i.e:
I think the "word" at the top is an alteration number (070 perhaps) that relates to something on the original entry, but not on this copy.

Oh I see Prue, I thought that Geoff was referring to the writing in the column where it says female.  I may contact the local registry office to see if they can shed any light on it.

Thanks
Ewan
