Welcome to Rootschat

No name? You haven't given us much to go on!

1861 census has 3 of them:

Thomas Key, b 1791 Grindleford Bridge, living Grindleford Bridge
John Key, b 1812 Lancaster, living Litchurch
Joseph Key, b 1816 Heage, living Riddings, Alfreton

By 1881, only Joseph is still around - in Dronfield.

No blacksmiths called Key in 1891

Before doing further research for you what makes you think you have the correct person, it's so easy to follow the wrong line if you go on a hunch instead of the facts.

My ancestor was Thomas Key 1801 - 1889, his spouse Hannah Lynam, these are pretty much for certain. I believe Thomas' father was a blacksmith from the Pentrich area, although it could be an uncle or cousin. I have neglected my research for best part of a year after losing a lot of information in a computer breakdown (heat is the enemy!). All help appreciated.

Do you have the marriage details - father's name may well be on that! ;D

1851 census, Thomas is 49, Hannah is 43; eldest child (Rebecca) is 21.

Puts a marriage around 1829?

1841 census:
HO107, Piece 188, Book/Folio 17/4, Page 3

Key, Thomas  M  35  Labourer
