Have traced I am descended from John Sykes Allcroft born about 1770 in Edwinstowe.  Does the Allcroft name still occur round the village?

Hullo and welcome to rootschat :)

A browse through the phonebook on line for the area  might give you some clues.

Hi, phone book only lists four Allcroft for the East Midlands and all are in Leicestershire. there are two more in Sheffield.
However a lot of people are ex-directory now, so would not show up. An electoral roll check would be better

Skewy.

Yes, skewy, that's a good idea.  The exdirectory factor escaped me ::)

Thanks for the information folks. i have done a bit of directory searching but didn't come up with anything in the area. Wondered if there would be any more info 'on the ground' as they say. Ex directory doesn't help these days.
