St Audry's hospital, Melton, Suffolk
« on: Wednesday 29 February 12 19:50 GMT (UK) »
In the course of tidying my house I have unearthed a number old 'Deaths and Disposal's' books (handwritten logs of patients who died at this now closed hospital) as well as a number of receipt books logging the belongings of patients at the time of their death. These date back to around 1939, but are not continuous. If anyone would like these I'd be happy to pass them on. I'm not sure how this site works as I've only just joined, but I will check and see if there are any replies to this post whenever I can.

Hi Alan,
The only thing I can find is a Post Mortems book which seems to date back to 1931. I'm more than happy to look in it for you or post it on.

I do have a deaths and disposals book from 1949. I'm afraid I don't know how to send a P M as I'm new to this. I can reply to one though.

There has been a thread on Rootsweb's Suffolk Board regarding St Audry's for some time.

These records should eventually find their way to the Suffolk Record Office, Ipswich Branch where they can then be accessed by all researchers  ;)

I'd be delighted to pass on anything and everything I find to the records office as I am moving house and I felt I should do something with these records rather than just recycle them, which is how I came to look up this website. I will post a notification when I have handed them over so everyone knows where to find them.  ;)

That is excellent news - thank you  ;D

I wish you well with the house move, we left our family home of the last thirty one years at the end of last year and have moved across Suffolk to my husband's home town.  Going through all the paperwork and memories of thirty one years was very difficult.
