'Daylight' passenger List 1877
« on: Wednesday 29 February 12 23:59 GMT (UK) »
Myself and my brother are doing some family history research and we need to get a hold of the ship 'Daylight' passenger list, year 1877 from Gravesend to Fremantle, Western Australia.

Is there anyone who can help out?

Thank you and have a great day.

I have a resource that lists the passengers arriving Western Australia and on  DAYLIGHT- who are you looking for?  I'm certainly not prepared to transcribe the names of the 78 passengers on board ;

The passengers are listed here, and perhaps Cando can provide more info if you find your persons of interest.

Hi Deb, Dundee and Cando,

Thank you for your replies.

First, I did not put any names down as I wanted to find out if whoever had a list would be able to point us in the direction as to where we could get a hold of the list as there are a few names that we are seeking information about.  I certainly didn't want anyone to transcribe a list of names so apologies if what I had requested was read in that context.

For now, our start is with the name 'Harry Hunter'.

Once again, thank you for your information that is much appreciated.

Have a great day!

No apology needed.  I 'jumped the gun'  ;)  Have been asked to transcribe passenger lists previously and it is far too time consuming.

The linked information in the newspaper ie Henry HUNTER, 21 labourer is identical to the information on my resource.  Departed London.  Arrived Fremantle 10 Aug 1877.

Have you searched at the State Library of WA?

Cheers

I was interested in blackbetty's reference to Harry Hunter, which I have just come across. I am trying to trace his UK roots, before he emigrated to Australia. I have narrowed down the possibilities, but if blackbetty or anyone else has information about him that would be great

Hi Chevalier56
As Harry Hunter is a common name, I wonder if you would like to give us what information you do have so as to separate your man from the many others of the name.

I am sure many here will be glad to help, but more details would be required to get started.

Hi, Sue, and thanks for your response. The Harry Hunter I am really interested in is the Henry Hunter who died in Western Australia on 8th November 1919, supposedly aged 63. He may or may not be the Harry Hunter who came ashore in 1877 from the vessel Daylight, and I am therefore interested in two things - first, any information as to what happened to the 1877 Harry Hunter after he landed in Australia (a lot is known about the Henry ("Harry") Hunter who died in 1919, but are they the same man?) and, second, any information about the antecedents of the 1877 Harry Hunter in the UK I have done some research in the 1871 UK census and in birth and death records and, whilst I have eliminated a lot, there are still ten Henry Hunters any of whom he could easily be - hence my interest in the post from blackbetty.

Thanks again for your interest.
