William Simmons bc 1846 Torbryan Devon living in Rutland - Plse help find 1871

Dear RC team….

Please can you help find the census returns 1871 - 1851 showing William Simmons born circa 1843 - 1850 Torbryan/Woodland Devon because I've only managed to find him and his family between 1881 - 1901, but William seems to be hiding on the 1871 - maybe his surname has been miss-transcribed in some way, so I would be most grateful if you could find William and any more of the early Simmons family.

No I'm very sorry I don't have any further names or information for William Simmons, and sadly neither does there seem to be any online ''from my searches'' - so its seems pretty impossible but maybe not to one of the RC team.

Back then, Torquay wasn't a big place, and came under the Newton Abbott registration district.
As did Torbryan and Woodland!

Hi, thanks for your note and the details.

I'm not sure that this is the correct 1871 William, mainly because I think he would have continued occupation wise as a carpenter, where as 'my' William didn't really have an occupation apart from a Labourer!!

Also I think too that if William went to the effort of saying that he was from Torbryan - golly I'd never heard of it nor until I came across it, nor would he if he was from there rather than Torquay, and Wm said that he was from Wadland too. now 'Woodland' was next to Torbryan, so I'm sorry I don't think Wm of Torquay 1871 is our chap.

I think that our Williams spelling of Simmons is possibly incorrect and it could be anything between Simmons & SYMONS because.... I've just searched and compared these two surnames in Torbryan and there are a lot of SYMONS

Another thought I had - where did the AVERY christian name come from ref Francis Avery 1895, Wm's wife Ellen Smiths grandmother was an Avery ALSO there seems to be some AVERYs in Torbryan as well... cor William's a tough one.

I think you should be considering getting the marriage certificate in the hope his fathers name is on it.

Thanks, I know that this would be my last option, but it would be so nice to at least find one or two Wm Simmons possibities, or even better 'my' William beforehand, it really must be an in-correst spelling of his surname... fingers crossed.
