In my experience, the Liverpool Maritime Museum archive has the records of the LSO. However, to access them, you have to get written permission. I found them very helpful indeed.

Very pleased to have found this site. My maternal grandfather went to the Seamans Orphanage , and served on the convoys to Russia in the First World war, eventually working for Cunard as a steward I think. His name was Joseph John Gardner and had two sisters, Beatrice and Frances. He married Jessie Ashley and they had two daughters, Marjorie (my mother) and Joan.

are the first I've ever seen of where he grew up in the 1890s/1900s.

I hope they preserve the building.

I went to St Margarets High School , which was a couple of doors away from the Orphanage ....I remember that building very well...in case you don`t know ,if you walk about 5 bus stops along Belmont  Road you reach Anfield ...Liverpools football ground .
