Some of the Quills were in Knocknagoshel parish associated with Curtins Tooreenard/ -a stones throw from Duagh parish- in the 1800's. The origins of  Quill is from Wood and there was a big write up about them in a specialist publication I saw in Castleisland Library last year July/August.
You could phone or email them. Some of them were well connected. :)

The Woods' origins were associated with Limerick whence to N. Kerry. 10 statute miles in those times would be approximately  200 metres today. 40 or 50 miles was a journey to a local County town including driving cattle to the fair or attending a sports meeting. The social division between the estates and Houses of Limerick and the mountains of Kerry can also be explained.  :)

I've since found that Christopher Julian of Tullamore House held his lands from Sir John Benn-Walsh, as did the Guerins and Ellen (Quill) in Dirrindaff in Duagh. This may be the connection.
