Hi
Hugh MacDiarmid the scottish poet (Christopher Murry Grieve)Says in one of his books. That his mothers gr gr grandfather had been laird of Castlemilk, His Mother was a Graham. And her father is my great grandfather.I have traced my tree back to 1813 to Andrew Graham, bastard son Of David Graham,But cant find any more.So this May be a new lead for me?

Is that not a reference to Castlemilk in Glasgow.(also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castlemilk )   I'm wondering if islaymcc might be thinking of Castlemilk which lies just south of Lockerbie and north of Elcclefechan - http://www.explorebritain.info/locality-dumfries-and-galloway-castlemilk-ny1577

This links to the Buchanan-Jardine  family:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buchanan-Jardine_Baronets

I've not found a  ref to the Grahams of Castlemilk or Castle milk so far

The Lairds of Castlemilk, Glasgow, were Stewarts.

After a bit more searching ~

Mentioned here:

http://www.old-kirkcudbright.net/landowners/mckerlie.asp

If you do a Find 'Castlemi', you'll get to a ref of it being owned by the Lidderdale family (about half way down the page) in the 18th century - much before the Jardines

The current house is a Grade A listed building built in 1865 http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/sc-16888-castlemilk-st-mungo

More on the Jardines, where to stay, vets, etc. but,  again,  nothing so far on Grahams or Carruthers.
