Mckellar family Douglas Water
« on: Thursday 15 March 12 12:50 GMT (UK) »
We have been told that we have relations that used to live in Douglas Water. It seems that part of the family attended our wedding in 1967. I never saw or heard from them again. My wife's mother
said that Maisie (Jeffery) married name Mckellar lived in Douglas Water. It seems Archie was the school caretaker and also ran the school football team. Does anyone in Douglas Water remember the family? I am trying to find the date of birth of Maisie and have been told this may be a nickname
so I would be looking for her real name. I still have two siblings of my mother in law to find and I am sure you all know when the only source of information is no longer here or that tales become stretched things get difficult. Can anyone help? I have been very, very lucky so far help from Scotland,Australia and New Zealand. Thank you all.

Best Wishes UGGY

There are two Maisie's who married a Mc/MacKellar neither with the last name of Jeffery. An Archibald MacKellar married a Maise Taylor Martin in 1954 this Maisie died in Ayr in 1994.

Go to Scot's People http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk you can see them here for a small cost.

Maisie is a proper given name.

DonM.
Thank you very much. The answer you gave is I am sure the correct one. We did not know
the Taylor bit. We now know her name to be Maisie Taylor Martin, married to Archibald McKellar.
She is one of my mother in law's sisters. I have 1 sister and 2 brothers to find. It is coming together
slowly.
Thank you again.

Hi Uggy,

I spoke to a friend of mine who knew Maisie & Archie quite well. Maisie was indeed her proper name. Archie came to the village as a young man of about 20 years, from Glasgow. He worked as the school janitor until he retired and was very well known and liked in Douglas Water. My friend thinks he came to the village about 1954 - 55. Maisie died a few years ago and Archie died about 2 years ago, he lived in McAuslan Terrace. She thinks they only had one child, a daughter, not sure of her name but it may have been Pauline, who has also passed away. The daughter was married to (I'll P.M. his name) and he works in one of the supermarkets in Lanark.

You sent me a P.M. about Cambusnethan so I'll reply to that and include the chap's name.
Paterson, Torrance, Gilchrist - Hamilton Lanarkshire.
McCallum - Oban, McKechnie - Ross of Mull Argyll.
Scrim - Perthshire.
Liddell - Polmont,
Binnie - Muiravonside Stirlingshire.
Curran, McCafferty, Stevenson, McCue - Co Donegal
Gibbons, Weldon - Co Mayo.
Devlin - Co Tyrone.
Leonard - County Donegal & Glasgow.

Maisie is a proper given name.
It may be in a few cases, like this one, but it is far more often a nickname for Mary.

See http://www.whatsinaname.net/php/search.php?action=search2&search_name=maisie
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
