The online civil registration index only goes up to 1921 for Northern Ireland counties- www.familysearch.org

CWGC website has a database for military personnel killed in both World Wars- couldn't find a John/J Johnston killed 1915 there but you can try with a wider range of dates in case the year is incorrect- www.cwgc.org

3 Belfast cemeteries have records online- City, Roselawn, Dundonald- once you find a person click on the grave link to see who else is buried in the plot-
http://www.belfastcity.gov.uk/burialrecords/search.asp

To find causes of death you will bneed to get the actual death certificate.

The Larne Times newspaper carried a photo on 23 October 1915 of Private J. Johnston (3596), 'C' Company of the 1st Batt. Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, reported missing on the previous 21 August, parents living at 35 Cumberland Street. Same newspaper on 3 June 1916 also carried a photo of the son William who was killed. Both photos reproduced at the link below, together with a relative's contact details (once you follow the link, just Ctrl-F / search for 35 Cumberland Street):

The Northern Whig newspaper of 18 January 1921 carried a story about a 32 year old 'Ellen' Brown of 22 Crosby Street who died after her clothing ignited while feeding a child by the fireside, her husband was named as Henry Brown and a sister Hannah Frazer of 35 Cumberland Street was mentioned. Based on that story, here are the civil registration records for the:

- marriage of Henry Brown and Sarah Ellen Johnston in 1915:

- death of Sarah Ellen Brown in 1921:

Given the occupation (compared to the 1911 census) and father's details and the names of the witnesses, this has to be son Alexander Johnston marrying Ellen Stafford in 1913:

And a son born in 1915:

I'm assuming that this (below) is the same source that 'bob600' drew from in posting to your other topic on the Canada subforum, some additional information at the bottom of the page, maybe already known (your information?):

Hi as a Johnston whose father comes from Belfast I'm intrigued with your study. Coincidentally  my great-grandparents (Hayes) lived at 15 Cumberland St in 1939. It's their daughter Martha who married my grandfather Albert Johnston.
