I have quite a lot of information on the Roseburgh's.  John Roseburgh was my great grandfather and lived in Galashiels with his wife Agnes White Smith.  His parents came from Haddington.

I'd also appreciate any information on the Roseburgh's. My family consists of a lot of Robina's (an uncommon name) and a Robina Bell Dorrance Nairn Butler is also present in my family (named after the first Robina Roseburgh i have come across - there are about 4 Robina's in my family). My grandmother thought that Roseburgh was a European name (perhaps German, derived from Roseburg, Rosburg) and thought we may have emigrated, but i don't know... i'm at a loss. Any information would be greatly appreciated :D

Hi Rachel,
I think that ROSEBURGH may be a variation of the Irish surname ROSBOROUGH which in turn is a variation of the Scottish ROXBURGH.  The Scottish BURGH is pronounced BOROUGH as in EDINBURGH or FRASERBURGH.

My ancestor was buried in Glasgow with the surname ROSEBURGH and there is a possible connection to Linlithgow.

Regards, Christine

Hi there,

I've just come across this thread.

My great great grandmother was Janet Roseburgh, she married Thomas Neillings.

I'd be interested to hear if you have found any further information esp on Janet's parents. Her mother's maiden name was Burt

Thank you

Gillian
