Pantyffynnon Mill
« on: Wednesday 21 March 12 00:08 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have found my great grandfather (Rees Jones) in the 1891 census that has his address enterred as Pantyffynnon Mill.
I have found Pantyffynnon (near Ammanford) but I have not found any online record of a mill.

Can anyone tell my if there was a mill at the place where the Amman and Loughor rivers join and is it still there?

Thanks
Jennifer

Hello Jennifer  :)

Pantyffynon Mill is listed on Deric John's index of placenames in the Parish of Llanedy:

www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/CMN/Llanedi/Placenames.doc

The mill pre-dates 1813.

Refer to the Berrington Estate papers at West Glamorgan Archives, which mention the Mill in relation to a mortgage of 1833

Kind Regards
Morgan

By the way, Mill Terrace was listed on the next page to the Mill and Farm, and is still there.

The mill has gone but there are enough stones left to see where it was sited. It is in the field at the western end of Mill Terrace.

Thank you so much. My great grandfather and family lived there per the 1891 census. Maybe I'll get to Pantyffynnon one day and take a look. Thanks again,
