The last sibling
« on: Saturday 24 March 12 06:00 GMT (UK) »
Further to a post in 'Deciphering & Recognition' - 1911 census - birth place - I wonder if anyone can offer any suggestions/advice/assistance as to where I might go now?

My paternal grandfather had 9 siblings and we have managed to trace the descendants of all but one and it was the post referred to that I hoped would help me to trace the descendants of the 10th.

The post I refer to enabled me to trace the wife - Mary Ann GREEN - of one of my grand uncles. He was William Thomas MEAD, born in Oxgate, Hendon in 1878. He served in the Boer War and re-enlisted for WW1. He married Mary in 1915, and he died in County Kildare in 1917. He left behind a daughter Marjorie S MEAD born in Salisbury in 1916. It's Marjorie - and any of her descendants - that I was hoping to find.

I can find no record of her after her birth. I entertained the idea that Mary re-married and Marjorie took her new father's name but can find no record of Mary re-marrying. In fact the only record I can find after 1917 is the death of a Mary Ann MEAD in Devizes, Wiltshire in March 1932. She was 55 at the time of her death which would make her birth date right for 'our' Mary.

I don't know if there is anywhere else I can look, anything else I can do which is why I'm asking those with far more experience than I for suggestions.

Have you looked in old papers for any evidence of her marriage - (I am having trouble with my own family from the 20th century and it is because many of the records are too recent to be online - and I have to rely on past newspapers for information.)

Born 1916 so her marriage if any, wouldn't be until about 1936-ish - give or take a couple.  Might be worth a go!  Also newspapers often give lots of information about other family members.   If I knew how to access British newspapers I'd look, but . . . . .    :-\

Edit to add     Seems British records come up to much more recently than Australian records - - so, if she stayed in UK, it should be there shouldn't it?

Hi

Marjorie S D MEAD is not the person Simon is looking for. Marjorie S D was born Marjorie S D Halstaff and married Wilard W MEAD in 1931
