Hi

Marjorie S D MEAD is not the person Simon is looking for. Marjorie S D was born Marjorie S D Halstaff and married Wilard W MEAD in 1931

Andy

I know - that is why I posted. :)  Sorry, I thought it would be more clear.

Simon,
Couple of questions. Do you know the second christian name of Marjorie "S" Mead born 1916. You also state that you found in Devies the death that fits your Mary A Mead aged 55. Do you know her exact birth date, as there are approx 7 deaths that could easily fit the critria you have posted.

No, I don't know Marjorie's middle name, all the information that I have has been obtained without access to certificates and, obviously, I'd have to get copies of them to absolutely confirm what I believe to be:

This is the chronology as I see it. I have more data on William but no further information about Mary or Marjorie.

Mary Ann GREEN b Dec 1878 Abergavenny, Monmouthshire - Abergavenny 11a 71. Parents George and Jane b 1858.

1881 Census aged 2 living at home

1901 living at home, aged 22. Siblings Louisa, Thomas, Alice.

1915, September married William MEAD Paddington 1a 75. (Married at William's home?)

1916, December Marjorie S MEAD born Salisbury 5a 245.

1917, December William Thomas MEAD dies.

1932, March Mary A MEAD d. aged 55 (born 1877/78) Devizes 5a 139.

No further trace of Marjorie as yet.

Hi

As has been mentioned in another forum Mary Ann GREEN is the daughter of Adam Ferguson GREEN, a gardener. (the marriage certificate is on Ancestry in London, England, Marriages and Banns, 1754-1921 as is the 1911 marriage of her brother Adam GREEN.

Mary Ann GREEN was born c1880 in Clyne, Sutherlandshire, Scotland according to the 1881 Scottish Census (1891 Scottish census has birthplace Rogart, Sutherlandshire) She is the daughter of Adam Ferguson GREEN and Annie (probably Ann DUNCAN) who married in Forres, Morayshire, Scotland 3rd August 1867.

This would mean that the Mary Ann GREEN is the one in the 1911 census for Landford Lodge amd her place of birth that we had so much difficulty decifering is in fact Inverness, Invernessshire written badly. It is not uncommon for a person living a long way from home to give the nearest large town as place of birth rather than some tiny village.

One thing to consider now is whether, having been left a widow with a small child, could she have moved back to Scotland

Hi

There is a marriage in Scotland that might be of interest.

1940 Marjorie Sybil MEAD.

I haven't amy credits for Scotlandspeople so can't see who she married and where she married. Also the marriage is too recent to download but you could see if anyone in Scotland visiting one of the locations where the registers are accessable could look up the marriage details for you. Scottish marriages are good in that they name both sets of parents.

Andy

Edited to add that the 1940 marriage was in Inverness.

This is doing my head in, not sure that I'm cut out for all this 'juggling'.

I think you've nailed it though Andy, deep in the recesses of family memory is the thought that Marjorie married a MATHESON. Following your trail I found, on Scotland's People, that she'd married Wiliam James MATHESON. Not only that but the same family folklorist (?!?!) had a vague recall of the name *. There is a birth for * in Inverness in 1943.

So now the hunt can begin in earnest! All being well * would be a spry 68, not unlike myself (I wish), so there is a chance that he's out there.

I'll take a couple of Aspro and try and think what to try next!

I think it might be an idea to update any forum on which you have raised the question of Marjorie MEAD so that people don't spend time duplicating information already found.
