Jane Podmore b:1839
« on: Monday 26 March 12 04:25 BST (UK) »
Hi folks,

Trying to find the marriage of Jane Podmore b:1839, to a Noah Colley b:1841'ish, I believe in 1865 abt.  Noah and Jane were both born in Shropshire but later settled in Staffordshire and then Worcestershire before finally Lancashire (from census 1881).
Nothing on FamilySearch or A******Y.

Thanks

Richard

There is a marriage for a Noah Colley registration district Wellington Sh (which FreeBMD says is another name for Wellington Sal)  June 1/4 1865 vol 6a page 145  Compared to all the other entries this page number seems to be missing the last numeral.
However when clicking to see who else is on the page there are two grooms and only one bride.

So I looked for marriages of a Jane in the same quarter and there are these.  There are no
? Podmores in Wellington Sal in this quarter.

Marriages Jun 1865
Jane Beech  Wellington Sh.  6a 1458 This one seems to be the closest match to Noah's entry.
Jane Gregory Wellington Sh  6a 1466
Jane Knox   Wellington, Sh  6a 1431
Jane Rogers  Wellington, Sh.  6a 1481

You could order the certificate using Noah's name only and on the proviso that the bride's name was Jane Podmore.  Or could it be that Jane was married previously?

Looking at the 1871 and 1881 census Noah and Jane do not have children of their own but have a niece Louisa Amelia Podmore with them. Is she the child of one of Jane's siblings or the child of a married sister of Noah?

Do you have already know without doubt that Jane is Jane Podmore?

In 1851 Noah is on census with parents (William and Amelia) and siblings, one of whom is Sarah A Colley. She was baptised 7 May 1837 at Dawley Magna (Noah baptised 04 July 1841 & another sister Louisa bap 14 Jun 1835).

In 1856 there is a marriage of Sarah Anne Colley - one of the two possible grooms is James Podmore.

As the niece living with Noah & Jane is Louisa Amelia Podmore  I would suggest this points to her being Noah's niece rather than Jane's niece.

It may be that buying the marriage certificate is the only way forward.

Just to confirm - Louisa Amelia Podmore bp.3/12/1865 Dawley Magna, dau. of James Podmore and Sarah Ann (clearly, the Colley referred to earlier).

Thanks to all 3 of you,

Your posts caused me to re-look at the connection between Noah and Jane.  I made the cardinal mistake of assuming the name Podmore for her without actually sourcing it.  This was based solely on Louisa Amelia Podmore and the 1871/81 census.
This is now being corrected.

Again thank you all for pointing me in the right direction.

Seems as some of the posts did not display for me so I apologize if I did not respond.
 Annette:
Yes Louisa Podmore is the daughter of James and Sarah Ann Colley.

Fairlane:
Yes You are correct.  I did post a response but it does not seem to be listed correctly.  I did not think the "niece" connection was with Noah and got a little fixated on the possible  Podmore one.

Crisane:

Looks like Rogers is Jane's maiden name so I think I will firm that up by ordering the certificate.

Thanks to you all   ;)
