McDonalds of Abriachan
« on: Thursday 29 March 12 22:10 BST (UK) »
Have come to a dead end with McDonalds of Abriachan research.  Not helped by McDonald being such a popular name in the area, nor the fact that any BMDs in Abriachan are recorded/registered as Inverness, Inverness-shire, Scotland.....needle...haystack... ???

This is the family I'm interested in:-

THOMAS MCDONALD m ELSPET MCPHEE = 1758 Glenurquhart
Children (that I know of..):
- JAMES b ca 1760 Abriachan d 1855 Abriachan
- ANN b ca 1763 Abriachan (m. ......... FRASER) d 1857 Abriachan
- DONALD b ca 1776 Abriachan (m. Mary Fraser)
- JOHN b ca 1758 Abriachan (m. Helen McLachlan) d <1855
- ALEXANDER?

The above James married Ann MacDonald and their children born Abriachan:-
- THOMAS 1793 - 1845 (Sawmiller, Kiltarlity)
- JOHN 1795 -               (alive in 1855 according to fathers death cert)
- DONALD 1798 -           (alive in 1855 according to fathers death cert)
- CATHERINE 1800 - >1881 (m Duncan Fraser, Abriachan)
- WILLIAM 1805 - 1862  (m Janet Macdonald)
- ELISABETH  1807 -      (alive in 1855 according to fathers death cert, and single in 1851 census, caring for her father)
- PETER 1808 - <1855     (deceased by 1855 according to fathers death cert)
- CHRISTIAN 1811-          (alive in 1855 according to fathers death cert)

Can anyone add anything to the above?  Particularly to the red names?

Thanks  ;)

Thanks so much for getting all that info for me.  Nothing jumping at me as definite relations, but I'm sure there must be family ties to some of those MacDonalds...my lot it seems didn't go in for the headstone idea much, too expensive for them perhaps.  I know John (Helen McLachlan's hubbie) 's brothers James (d.1855) and Donald (1857), and sister Ann (1857) were all interred at Kilmore (New or Old Kilmore I am unsure).

THOMAS MCDONALD m ELSPET MCPHEE = 1758 Glenurquhart
Children (that I know of..):
- JAMES b ca 1760 Abriachan d 1855 Abriachan
- ANN b ca 1763 Abriachan (m. ......... FRASER) d 1857 Abriachan
- DONALD b ca 1776 Abriachan (m. Mary Fraser) d 1857
- JOHN b ca 1758 Abriachan (m. Helen McLachlan) d 1836 (thank you ghostwhisperer  :D )
- ALEXANDER?

The above James married Ann MacDonald and their children born Abriachan:-
- THOMAS 1793 - 1845 (Sawmiller, Kiltarlity)
- JOHN 1795 - 1868 (Labourer, Inverness m. to Mary/Marjory Fraser)
- DONALD 1798 -           (alive in 1855 according to fathers death cert)
- CATHERINE 1800 - >1881 (m Duncan Fraser, Abriachan)

Hi Anabanana,

I am interested in a member of your family.  I am wondering if it's the same named person in my family tree.  In particular it is Catherine Macdonald (1880) who married Duncan Frazer.  Their daughter Ann  Fraser married a John Macdonald and their daughter Mary Ann Macdonald in turn married John Wilson.  Mary Ann and John are my Great Grandparents.

Your Donald, born 1776 might be an ancestor of mine.
