I believe the name "Daniel" on the passenger list was actually an error. The 1871 England census has the family of Matthew and Elener Cole in Aslackby with children named William, Samuel, Robert, George and Emily. The child, Samuel, is listed as being 10 years old. Comparing that to the passenger list you referred to that "Daniel" would be the same age as Samuel. Also there doesn't appear to be any passenger list entry in the name of Samuel Cole yet we do have proof he was in Ontario by 1881 (see below).
There is a marriage for Samuel Cole as follows:
Samuel Cole, 30, born Lincoln, England, son of Matthew and Helen Cole married Helen Jennings, 20, born Isle of Wight, England, daughter of John and Harriet Jennings on 6 Jul 1891 in Gore Bay, Manitoulin District, Ontario.
On the 1881 census there is an entry for a Samuel Cole in Algoma District in the household of William Cole and both are the right ages to be William and "Daniel" on the passenger list. Here's a link to the census image (lines 13 and 14 of the bottom page):
