William Peyton School Master Info **CLOSED**
« on: Thursday 12 April 12 12:09 BST (UK) »
Hello,

My ggg grandfather was William Peyton of Witchford, Cambridgeshire dob abt 1811.  My gg grandmother was his youngest child, Julia (dob 1853 in Witchford) with wife Mary (Saberton).  On Julia's birth cert William is listed as a School Master.

Can anyone shed any light on this?  Where and are there any documents about him?  Would like to know more than just dob, census data etc.

I am trying to get as far back in the family tree as possible.  I believe William's parents were William and Susanna (Langford) - but I don't have exact records.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.  In Australia, can't pop into the car and drive to local history/library.

Thanks to you all, :)

Have you tried contacting Cambridgeshire Archives to see if they hold records

Rosie - that first link makes interesting reading and should be good for christay.

christay - I have Peyton connections albeit through another distant connection but unfortunately from the other side of the country!  However I can tell you that a William Payton was baptised at Ely Holy Trinity on Nov 1 1811 the son of William and Susanna.  (I see his name was being spelt Payton in the 1851).  In 1810 William and Susanna had baptised another William at the same Church who was buried in 1810.

Also at Ely Holy Trinity on 6 January 1806 William Peyton (with the 'e') bac otp married Susanna Langford sp otp.  Witnesses were Elizabeth Cross and John Pigott (John Pigott witnessed many marriages so appears to have been Churchwarden or similar).

Same Church - a baptism of a William Peyton 29 May 1779 son of William and Sarah and 22 October 1782 Susanna Langford daughter of Richard and Elizabeth.

Best wishes,
Selina
