STRATH brothers from Fyvie Aberdeenshire Scotland
« on: Sunday 15 April 12 09:19 BST (UK) »
Catherine (B 1816) was a daughter of John Strath and Elizabeth Angus of Fyvie. She had brothers who emigrated to Canada. She married John Donald and came to NZ.  I would like to make contact with the Canadian families of STRATH.

It appears that the Strath family immigrated to the Bruce and Simcoe areas of Ontario.

I found James on the 1852 census, and then George and Alexander on the 1871 census.

Alexqander is still alive at the 1901 census and gives immigration of 1855.

Did the parents also immigrate as their is an Elizabeth, mother, widow with George in 1871.

Census info can be checked at
1852/1901/1911
http://automatedgenealogy.com
you can view transcripts as well as originals through the split screen option

1871/1881/1891
www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/index-e.html
again you can check both transcripts or originals

for the 1871 census, go to microform digitization, go to 1871 census, then to help and scroll to the bottom where you will see an option to view the nominal lists of the census. That is where to look for the Strath families.
If you go to the 1871 that is listed under the census info, you will only get index for Head of Family.

You can check for deaths at
http://ocfa.islandnet.com

There is an online directory that you can check for living relatives
www.canada411.ca

Good luck in your search
Val

You can also access the census and some other info on the Strath family at
www.familysearch.org

go to Canada and then to the options for Canada and Ontario.

You can access the 1871 census at this site as well possible easier than through the other site that I gave.

Thanks, Val. I'm following it up. I found Strath names in Simcoe and Bruce in the Canada White pages, too and will try them as well. Jojo :)

Good Morning,

My mother's maiden name was Strath and her Father was from the Upptergrove area of Simcoe County, Ontario. My Brother has a complete family tree of the Straths from Aberdeenshire. In fact the family is still living on the original farm. Given some time I can find my copy and provide that information.m.

I have found the Strath family tree in the Simcoe County area with some of it going back to Thomas Strath born in 1446 in Auchterless, Aberdeenshire, Scotland who was Burgess of Aberdeen, 1479. Will communicate with originator as soon as I figure out how this forum works.

As Polarbear stated, make one more post and then you can use the Personal Message (PM) to contact jojomarshall.

The Personal Message allows you to communicate with the other person and exchange your emails or other information such as living persons. You can't access the PM until you have made 3 posts. To use the PM, you click on the little green scroll under the person's user name and a new screen will come up that will allow you to send a message to that person.

Hope this helps a bit. If you have problems after making your third post, put it on this thread and we will continue to help you.
