Finding Joseph's parents is proving a tad difficult.

From the information I have, Thomas and Joseph appear to carry through the tree.

I was looking at the "Naming tradition" for a guide. George seems to be the only one that followed it.

First son after his parental Grandfather
Second son after his maternal Grandfather
Third son after his father
Subsequent sons after other relatives, friends, neighbours. minister, doctor etc;

First daughter after her maternal Grandmother
Second daughter after her parental Grandmother
Third daughter after her mother
Subsequent daughters after other relatives, family & friends etc;

Other Rootschatters might find this information useful  :).

I am going to the Dumfries Library tomorrow and look for Jardine deaths in the death OPR books, for areas in and around Tundergarth.

Shall use Janet Kerr's parents death dates as a guide. May not achieve anything, but anything is worth a try.

Let us assume that they did have a James before George, then we could be looking for Jame as Joseph's father. It would explain why Joseph had a brother James, also.

There has to ba another Simon further back, somewhere?

Yes, we could very well be looking for a James as Joseph's father. Did Joseph have a brother James?

I think the James who went to Canada and granted land in 1818 was Joseph's son. Possibly born between 1792/1795 and would have been 23 or 25 years old.

The Samuel remains a mystery for the moment.

There was a James at Hayhill, who I feel is Joseph's brother and I was thinking that the James in Canada was his son and not Joseph's. Joseph could have had a James not in Tundergarth, though.

I found this on Family Search and might be a possible for Joseph's parents.The only thing is, the birth date is 1768 and not 1767. Also the child is not named, but could explain why we haven't found a Joseph birth.

Joseph and Janet had a daughter Jane but, Jane can also be known as Jean.

We don't have any Jean's in the tree.
