No joy at the library.

Went through the OPR births again in case I had missed something. There is no Joseph Jardine birth for 1767/1770, perhaps his birth wasn't registered.

There is not a birth for a James, to Joseph Jardine. So, you're probably right that he is Joseph's brother.

Just don't know where else to look. Perhaps another one of lifes mysteries  :-\.

Thanks for looking.  :(

I wonder why it was thought that he was born in Eccelfechan-excuse spelling-as per book from Canada?

Did you look at Jarden?

You are most welcome.

I did look at the  various spellings.  Don't know where they got Ecclefechan from. I somehow don't have a lot of faith with the info from the book  :-\.  I have a feeling there is a clue out there or, I am searching in the wrong place.

I have a copy of the Hoddom Parish Memorial Inscriptions, which  include Ecclefechan. Will check it.

Got access to the Ancestry, which is free if you are a library member. There was a problem with it though. The images wouldn't download. Was trying to find James Jardine's death in Canada, to see if it gave his father's name.

Have looked through the Hoddam MI's. There are 10 Jardines/Jardin burials. Going by the names there is only one. that might fit.

Hoddam Old Parish Church - South Section

John JARDIN who died at Supplebank 1779 aged 70 years also Jannet Brown his spouse who died October 28th 1801 aged 92 years and Janet Jardine their daughter who died 1807 aged 51 years also William Jardine their son who died1816 aged 69 years.

I am thinking that the Willam Jardine who died 1816 aged 69 could be a possible father for Joseph. William would have been born 1747 :-\.

What do you think.

I'm thinking that if his father was William his own William would have been his first born.

That's the problem, we don't know whether his first born was a girl or a boy.

They took a William to canada with them. Do we know his birth year?

Do you have the Jardine books. I think I left them there.

From the information I have William was born December 20 1807

Yes, you left the books here. Not sure where they are at the moment though. There are copies of the books at the Dumfries Family History. The woman from Canada asked me to hand them in to them.

Have found the Jardine folder with information I had gathered together.

Ok, so he wasn't the eldest son, then.
