William Coyne Waterford
« on: Monday 16 April 12 06:23 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace my Coyne ancestry, unfortunately I have come to a full stop.  So far I have my Grandfather Robert Joseph Coyne born in Waterford on the 1st jan 1825 died in 1910  Dubbo NSW Australia. He married Ann Sophia Frogley in 1849 in NSW. So far so good however its from then on that I have problems. His death cert stats his father as William, mother unknown. What I know of William is that he was a landowner probably somewhere in Waterford, for some reason, when he died, he cut his son Robert from his will and left his estate to the church (catholic most likely). I think the church used it as a school.
I have found a baptism record for a Robert Coyne  with some interesting info:
Transcription of text
Name; Robert Coyne Date of baptism/birth; 23-Oct-1825
Address; Parish/District; St Patrick's
Gender; County; Co, Waterford
Denomination;
Father;William Coyne Mother; Mary Ann Knox
Sponsor 1; Mary Power Sponsor/Informant Ann
This is all I have. Don't know where to go from here.Regards

On  www.rootsireland.ie (pay) there are four other baptisms for Coyne with father William in Waterford 1820-1840. Also a William Coyne baptism in 1798 in Trinity Within (Cathedral) parish.  St. Patricks parish adjoined Trinity Within in Waterford City.

From a remnant of the 1821 census there is a Mary Ann Knox living in Patrick St. with her parents and siblings. www.igp-web.com/Waterford/census/wat_4.htm

Thanks 'nowel' for the information. I checked and the Mary Ann could be the one that I am looking for if I could only find a record of her marriage with William then I would be sure.  The William Coyne baptised in 1798 could be the one that I am looking for however his name on the record is spelt 'Coin' as well as his fathers name.Regards 'tamworth'

In the Pigot directory of 1824 there is a William Coyne , Baker and Publican, South Street, New Ross, a relation perhaps?

Thanks 'vasaborg' without more info I don't think that this William is any relation. Where is New Ross?

the town of New Ross is in Co. Wexford, and very close to Co. Kilkenny and about 24 km (~15 miles) north east of Waterford city.

I am still trying to find more information on William Coyne Waterford.  I have found an entry for a William Coyne in the Irish Petty Sessions Court Register  1828-1912, however I cant read the address it is something like..William Coyne, farmer  of Waterford Parish Robi.. the rest is illegible..could be  u
which would make it Robiu. Does anyone recognise this Parish or something like it?

It would be better to post a snippet of the record.
