Decipher Witness Names?
« on: Tuesday 24 April 12 18:17 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I need some help please!

Can anybody decipher the names of the two witnesses on James Thomas Staples and Harriet White's marriage record?

(Bottom left of page)

Many thanks in advance for your help,
Glen.

Hi Glen,

It's really difficult to read, and my offering is miniscule, but here's what jumped out at me:

First witness:  first two letters possibly Ch, but cannot read the rest.

Second:  Hannah (?) .....llan.....White (?)

sorry, it's the best I can do

Ah I think there are three witnesses!!

Looks like an 'Ann Staples' is the third witness?

Yes, I think you're correct about the 'Ch' for the first witness. That looks like it was a 'Charles White' maybe?

Thanks everyone!!  :)

Stil seeing 'Ch' and now looks more like surname 'White' for the first witness. Can't add anything more to my first comments about the second, I'm afraid.

Not sure whether you would have more than two witnesses - I'm sure one of the RC experts would be able to help you on that!

One the 1st line: the first name to jump out at me was short form Charles
= Chs White,
but the more I look, the more it appears to be
"Chr White (Christopher?)

On the Second line: The first name to jump out at me was Howard but the more I look at it, the more it looks like
Thomas Rogh, followed by Ann - ? -

Hi Glen,

Just had a quick look on FindMyPast. It looks like there are only two witnesses, the second witness looks like 'the mark of Anne Thornton'.
