I found the Mary E Williams from 1871 staying with Grandmother.

Mary E (with Amy at granny's) is another sister.

It all helps build a picture.

If Winifred is her granny, then she is down as born Bala circa 1801 - I have the Llanycil(Bala) parish registers  ;D

No there is only John from 1871 with parents in 1881.Winifred the Grandmother is given as born in Bala in c 1801.

Is Winifred William's mother? It's a good question. I thought I had found some other likely candidates for his parents which would mean that he married a Williams - a very common occurrence in that part of the world, like Jones/Jones marriages.
Alternatively, the other couple may be a red herring, in which case Winifrd must be his mother.

Williamses and Joneses. Why couldn't my family be called Beaulieu-Trumpington or Featherstonehaugh? it would make life so much easier.

The 1861 family with William had Thomas and Mary as parents (I think)  - closed the tab now but I think I put up the ref:

Could  this be William in 1861 - RG9/1886/88/7  - in Northwood with parents but married - wife not with him  :-\
