Montagu William George Smith
« on: Thursday 26 April 12 06:19 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I have almost given up hope of finding out anymore info on my Great grandfathers parents but thought I should try here.  His name was Montagu William George Smith born in Woodspeen east 1891 to mother Helen Smith.  The family legend says that his mother ran a pub in speen. My mother remembers a man called Charlie Smith approaching her at her grandads funeral and saying she had her great granmothers nose. Any info much apprieciated.

In 1901, Montague is a boarder?

Are we thinking that his mother Helen was unmarried?

There is a tree with someone of the same name but with different parents - Frederick Smith and Louisa Arnold  :-\

Fairly unusual set of names for there to be two born same place same time, maybe find this other one to rule him out?

Hello,
If you haven't got it, his birth cert would probably be helpful.

That tree (and other based on it) have a William G Smith from 1901 attached.
Can't see a basis for the child of Frederick & Louisa being Montague?

Not many Helen Smiths around.  Where did the information come from that Helen was the name of his mother please?

The boarder in 1901 is still with the same family in 1911.

Thanks everyone. I have the mothers name as Helen Smith from his birth certificate. There was no father named. My nan remembered the Flitters she actually called the daughter on the census Nanny Flitter. She didn't think there was any blood connection to them though. It is one of those frustrating mysteries.

Just a quickie
I was hoping that there was some relationship to the Flitters because they are part of my extended Sellwood family. I couldn't find one thought. Never mind.
