Hi Fiona,

None of these sites are infallable and there will always be times that you will find someone on one site but not another.

It would appear with Elizabeth that there may have been 2.

1873 Elizabeth passing away and the next daughter 1874 being called Elizabeth in her honor (quite common practice for the time).

I sincerly hope this is one and the same family that you are looking for - fingers crossed

Tara

Hi Heywood

HA It's late at night and I thought I was making mistakes !!

Yes, I looked at those other links. It is confusing when so many people seem to be wanting to track down a Garrett Stack.

If I'm reading it right though, there is one family dealing with a Garrett Stack son of John.............................

and then Fiona looking for Garrett Stack son of James.............

(both Garretts from Kerry, roughly same age, both appearing to settle in Pennsylvania) and I think this is where the confusion is.

Hopefully Fiona has a handle on it now !

Tara

Sorry for causing confusion by posting on both the Kerry and USA threads. I thought different people might be viewing each! Goodnight for now & thanks for everything. Fiona

It is difficult with Stack being a popular surname.

Looking again at Ellis Island there is a Kate Stack 18 yrs (Ballylongford) aboard the Teutonic bound for Pittsburgh in July 1895. This age differs by a year from the birth/baptisms found.

There is a Lizzie Stack 20 yrs (residence 'Yrippal') aboard the Teutonic in July 1897 - unfortunately the manifest doesn't match up and you would need to search back and forth for any further information. This is a couple of years different though to the births posted.

1911

NB: states Hanora has had 6 children but only 2 children are living.  :-\

Thanks, Heywood. The person I am actually searching for is Garrett Stack who was brother of James, father of the Stack siblings in Pittsburgh. I reckon Garrett was born c 1838 - had siblings James, Margaret, Kate/Catherine & possibly Eliza/beth (& maybe more). Didn't know his place of birth in Kerry but it#s looking now like Ballylongford (parish of Ballybunion) based on the info we turned up yesterday. Fiona

Hi Fiona,

I think I have seen you mention on other threads a Garrett Stack 'tailor' - is is the birthplace of this Garrett that you are trying to track down ??

Yes, Tara - that's the guy in question .... I'm pretty sure he's brother of the James Stack you unearthed last night.  8) Did you get to look at any church records when you were down in north Kerry?
