William Morton, Owston Ferry Help
« on: Thursday 10 May 12 14:22 BST (UK) »
I have been trying to work out a few thins concerning my gx3 grandfarther William morton’s family.
I have a copy of the marraige cert between him and Matha Ingham on the 27 feb 1843 at St Martin Owston Ferry. This says that he was 32 year old widow, so that makes the year of birth about 1811, and that his fathers name was also William Morton.         Information on a later census tells me that he was born in Gainsbrough.  I have not found William senior on any census returns or his wife's name and so can not trace back any further,   and I have not seen William jnr’s first marriage.   Can anyone help
Thank you

On the IGI at FamilySearch.org there is a baptism of William Morton at Gainsborough Jan 26th 1811, parents William and Ann. This is a submitted entry with film numbers so is likely to be correct.

NC.

I have just tried the IGI for a marriage between William Morton and Ann.  On 04 march 1805 a William Morton married Ann Porter.  This sound possible but Could some kind person do a census look up in the gainsbouogh area for me.
Working on the idea that William and Ann Morton were approx 21 years old when they married?? They would have been around about 57 years old (if they survived) in1841.   fingers crossed

A possiblity for William (snr) in the 1841 in the Union Workhouse, Gainsborough
aged 60, born in county - HO107/0634/4 but as there is no wife (Ann) listed with him, it is pretty difficult to say with any certainty that this is the William Morton that you are looking for.  :-\

Civil Registration began 1st July 1837 and all births, death and marriages were meant to be recorded (although not all of them were at that time)
