Many thanks for that link -- I now have the exact date of death of John R Jones and know that his widow took over the license of the Black Inn afterwards.

Re: Richard and Catinka Jones. This is a red herring. Richard was the son of Thomas and Hannah Jones of the Post Office, Rhuddlan. He was a land agent living in Cardiganshire in 1881 and returned to Rhuddlan only to die at the Black Inn on Good Friday 1891. Catinka (Catherina Caroline Julia Epple) died in Rhuddlan in 1919.

The Marsh Inn has only just been demolished, it was a listed building but was demolished anyway, and the New Inn still stands in Rhuddlan today.
