Elizabeth Gimson. Narborough
« on: Friday 11 May 12 22:10 BST (UK) »
Copy of a death certificate, dated 9 November 1842

The deceased was John Jayes, FWK aged 62, of Enderby, and the death occurred in Enderby.

The informant was Elizabeth Gimson, sister, present at the death, Narborough.

I can't work out who Elizabeth actually was. I can't confirm her in the 1841 census and I can't find any Jayes/Gimson marraiges.

I'm mindful of a few potential problems:
Jayes is only one potential spelling of this family's surname, I've also seen Jay, Jey, Jays, Jeys, Jeyes, Jeayes
Elizabeth could have been a widow when she married Mr Gimson
She might not be a birth sister to John Jayes, but a sister in law or something else instead.

can anyone help me find her? It would help me identify whether this is "my" John Jayes!

Muchas gracias :)

In 1851 there is an Elizabeth Gimson aged 67 (i.e. bc.1784), born Enderby, living alone but shown as Marr. - Charwoman - and think she died in 1855.

She was living in Meeting Lane, Narborough and next door but one to an Obed Jayes and family (on the same page).    Ref. HO107 - 2081 - 332 - 7.

Do you have more details of that marriage, Willsy?--- date, place, any other witnesses etc? (Bride's name would be fabulous but I'm sure too much to ask in that era!)

I am so sorry I did not see your reply and and am hanging my head in shame as it was the marriage
of John Gimson Widower to Elizabeth Kenney that I noticed a John Jayes as a witness, the other witness is George Heighton but thought he might be a church warden.

John signs the register which I thought might help
