Mary Ann Newey 1841 census
« on: Friday 18 May 12 16:53 BST (UK) »
Hi there

Mary Ann Newey marries Elijah Brueton 24th Nov 1845 St phillips Birmingham
Fathers are
Emanuel Newey
Joseph Brueton (aka Bruerton)

Mary Anns family are  on the 1841 census Birmingham , New  Summer st
Ho107 , peice 1141 , book 10 , dist 27 ,  folio 7 , page 7
(twins do run in this branch of  family)
Emanuel Newey age 45 - steel roller
Mary (wife) age 40
Ann 20 - spoon polisher
Elizabeth 20 -press? worker
Sarah 15 -chain/chair ? maker
John 15 -steel roller
William 5
Eliabeth 2
all born in county except Sarah and John

I am trying to find Mary Ann Newey (b abt 1820 , Birmingham ) on the 1841 census
There is a Mary Newey in Tanworth (in Arden) , Warks
HO107 , peice 1134 , book 9 , dist 3 , folio 44 , page 22
Samuel Newey age 50 - coal dealer
Hannah Newey age 55
Eliza Newey age 8
Charles Newey age 12
James Newey age 20
Mary Newey age 20
all born in county
(for some reason they are all listed seperately on the index)

The reason i think this maybe my Mary Ann is that her father Emanuel is listed as father in Tanworth Parish register for his sons marriage and that she may be staying with relatives . Or is she somewhere else ?
Thankyou for reading

Ages in 1841 were rounded down to the nearest 5 for 15 year olds & over so Mary will be 20-24 in 1841.

I think your Emanuel belongs to this Family all from St.Phillip's:
Christenings:
Sarah/1784/d.1787
Jonathan/1785
George/1790
Clary/1792
Emanuel/1794
William Frederick/1796
Sampson/1798/d.1799
Daniel/1800
David/1802/d.1802
Diana/1803/d.1807
Elizabeth Mary/?/d.1810
Parents Jonathan & Elizabeth Newey.
As you can see there is no brother Samuel.
Emanuel married Mary Goode 1818 in Handsworth so I can't see a Tanworth connection other than John's marriage.

Hi jim1 and thankyou for your reply . Yes that is what  i have as  Emanuels  family (mother Elizabeth possibly  nee Miller but not sure ) and wife Mary Goode .
Yes i noticed that there is no Samuel among Emanuels  siblings , but neither is there a John.

Marriage at Tanworth in Arden 1857 - Emanuel Newey (now deceased)  - steel roller  father of John Newey
Just wondering who is best candidate for Mary Ann on 1841 census as the one in Tanworth seems to be the only one born Warks who fits as the others seem to be with parents
ta again

Not sure why not having a brother John is significant. He has a son John who is the one married in Tanworth.
Samuel appears to come from a boat family & doesn't appear to have a daughter Mary Ann b.c.1820 but does have one born c.1811.
Samuel in 1881 says he's born B'ham so the connection may be there if there is one.
Mary may have been in service in 1841 & not included.

I can't find a connection between Emanuel & Samuel or Jonathan & Samuel so there's no reason to believe that the Mary Ann in Samuel's household is Emanuel's daughter.I wouldn't spend too much time over this as even if it is her it's doesn't tell you anything you don't already know.

I think i did work out once that Jonathan and Samuel are  cousins. Both grandchildren of  William Newey  and Mary Hadley m 1735 . But nothing certain. I guess i was hoping that finding Mary Ann  staying/working with relatives  might give me some clues as to who her paternal grandmother  Elizabeth was and area  . There is a marriage at Kenilworth 1779 Jonathan Newey to Elizabeth Miller. But yes your probably right in that i do have info i need  .  Lucky too  that  Emanuel isnt such a common name . Ta :)

The one married to Elizabeth Miller is John & he's from Kenilworth not B'ham.
