Grierson Family Tree

Hi All,

I am trying to do my Family tree of the Grierson side. I have come across a Lawrence Green in Annan was born in 1866 but not sure when he died. He was married to Georgina Mitchell  who owned a boarding house in Murray St Annan according to the 1901 census.

Any information on him would be so greatfully recieved

Have you checked the marriage cert for Lawrence and Georgina to see what it say about his parents?

The 1901 census shows Georgina, 39, Lodging House Keeper, as head and children:

Rose A M Green 10
Lawrance Green 9
Robert Green 7
Thomas H Green 5
Joseph Green 3
Arther Green 3 Months

Address: 9 Murray St, Annan

Thanks the Rosie aged 10 at this census was my great grand mother  which is where I encountered Lawrence

Have you found a marriage cert?

There is a little on line about the family, but not all that clear...http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/thread.aspx?mv=flat&m=245&p=localities.northam.canada.alberta.lethbridge

Rose's birth cert should also include parent's marriage details.

The marriage cert would help in confirming parents details for both Lawrence and Georgina.The only entry I am seeing so far for Lawrence is one in Glasgow - 10 JUL 1861 Hutchesontown, Glasgow, parents William GREEN and Mary MCVEY.

Not seeing any of these names in the names of the children of Lawrence and Georgina  Marriage cert would help to let you work back....

There are some online trees for the family which include this 1891 census entry in Workington, Cockermouth, Cumberland, England (can't see them in Scotland for that year so would fit):

Lawrence Green 25 ironworks lab., b. Carlisle, Cumberland
Georgina Green 28 b. Scotland
Michael Hughes 76, lodger b. Ireland

From those trees, his parents are given as Joseph Stainon Green and Rosanna McGlade, his birth in 1st Qrt 1866. Family in Caldewgate, Cumberland, 1871 - all the children down as born in Carlisle:

Rosa Green 40 b. Ireland
Mary Green 17
William Green 13
James Green 10
John Green 8
Lawrence Green 5

My G-G -Grandfather  William Kerr married Isabella Grierson in 1855 in Dumfries
she came from Cumberland. If this piece ever fits your Jugsaw let me know.

hi naturesview, first time post for me, hope i get this stuff right!, also interested in griersons of ruthwell and caerlaverock, ggmother on my mother's side from there 1856, married a robert john edgar and lived in manchester until his death, moved back to scotland 1895 - 1900 any info on robert john appreciated

My maternal grandfather was a William Grierson, he was a chauffeur but I don't know who he worked for or how to find out. My maiden name is Edgar, paternal grandfather Robert Edgar. Beginning to get very confused now with names as lots of Robert's and James's !
Gone back as far as 1890

William Grierson married Marion Cole in 1921 ( My grandparents ) Don't know if this will be any help to you, there were also Kerrs in my grandmothers family
