Yes, the younger William was my grandfather.  The marriage date you give matches the note I have to the day, and Mary Fleming was his wife (she went by "Minnie").

As for the townland I can't remember now whether it is Ballymully or Ballyleighery (also spelled Ballyleagry).  I will have to ask my dad who still lives there.  Anyway the two are adjacent.

Also the PRONI will record mentioned by aghadowey would be for the older William, my great-grandfather.  I didn't previously know his date of death.

William Irwin who died on 17th April 1931 was aged 80. His son William was present at death.

This must be his marriage. William Irwin of Glen Mills Ballyleighery married Sarah Ross also of Ballyleighery on 29th March 1888. William's father was given as John Irwin, a farmer. I was only able to find one child of this marriage. William Irwin who was born 1st July 1891.

I have more information about your family. If you make one more posting I will be able to send you a P.M.

Thanks cyclamen.  Obligatory third post here to enable PM.

I also can send you what I have about John Irwin's forebears, although it is sketchy - some names, very few dates.

Hi
I have tried to send a PM to Forestial but no reply. I am trying to gather information about the Irwin family from Limavady. Annie Mary Irwin born 1st July 1879 died 1967 was my husband's grandmother. She was the elder daughter of John Irwin (died 9th June 1895) and Susan Gault. Her younger brother Fred was killed in WW1 and is remembered on the memorial in Limavady. We have a lovely picture of Fred commissioned after he died. I would be interested in any genealogy that anyone has about the above John Irwin's family.

Thank you

There's quite a bit of information about John Irwin already posted on this thread. Is there something in particular that you are looking for?

I sent a PM to Forestial who had intimated in reply 6 of this thread, that he had some notes on the family which had been compiled by cousins years ago. I haven't heard anything from him and thought that perhaps if he no longer visited the site he may have passed on information to someone else.
I have photos of John Irwin and Susan Gault's family which might be of interest to other Irwin family members.

Hi,
I have some details of Fred Irwin. When he died he was a 2nd Lieutenant in the 9th Batallion of the Royal Enniskillen Fusiliers. He was awarded the Military Medal. He died on 16 August 1917 and is buried in the New Irish Farm Cemetery just north of Ypres. He is commemorated on a plaque in Limavady 2nd Presbyterian Church as well as the Limavady War Memorial. His parents, John Irwin and Susan Gault were married in Largy Presbyterian Church in 1878.
