The London gazette has other entries for William - 12 Mar 1816 and 30 Nov 1811

You can search the Gazette on line (I have limited my searches to 1810-1820).

Thank you very much indeed. I think there is a good chance this may be my William: The earliest reference I can find to him being a Linen Draper in Chiswell Street, is via the: "Old Bailey Online Proceedings" dated the 29th of May 1816. This was when Thomas Bruce was indicted for stealing four handkerchiefs from him. I know what a Warehouseman is but what is a: "Factor" please?
He was put down as that in the 1816 bankruptcy proceeding.

Thank you.  :) ;)

If you google "old occupations" you can check out "factor" at different sites or google "factor wikipedia"

Re William Spooner, there is a man of that name in an 1811 London Directory, proprietor of a "Manchester" warehouse at 23 Lawrence Lane, Cheapside. "Manchester" was (and still is in Australia) a generic term for household linen and cotton goods.

Hello There,

I wander if you could possibly tell me please what website this is from/ post a link to it?
Or is it only viewable on Find My Past or Ancestry, where you have to pay a subscription to view it?

Thanks.  :) ;)

It's in Holden's London and Country Directory 1811, volume 1, which I don't think is available online other than through a subscription site. It is also available to purchase on CD.

Incidentally I have just noticed a Wm Spooner, 18 Henry Street, Pentonville in the private residents directory of the same volume.
