I think Ivy was actually Phyllis Ivy Bowdidge, the sister of my uncle's mother, Florence Louise.

Yes that would be right. I can see that she was commonly called Ivy and wondered if it might be her. However I cannot see any links to Hartwell in any event.

"William John Kightley travelled back to the UK in 1920 with his children he left them with his brother Charles Kightley, in Northamptonshire. Williams wife Sophie (Berthold) had died in 1918"

I am looking to find details of Sophie's children - their names and dates of birth etc.  How would I go about that please?  Would I get Sophie's death cert and if so, where from?

Her children should be noted on her Death notice in the estate file held at the Cape Town archive.
