I've just come across this old post and thought I'd add to it if you are still researching.  My uncle was landlord there for some time.  I can't remember the years he was there now but it must have been sometime in the 60s early 70s.  They progressed on to (I think it was called Coach & Horses in Holcombe Brook later.
I'm interested if you have come across anything about the time my uncle was there, his name was Leonard Scholes.
