CarrickBroad/Carricbode
« on: Wednesday 30 May 12 12:22 BST (UK) »
Hi

Does anyone know exactly where CarrickBroad/Carricbode is in Armagh? I know it is nearl Jonesborough & Forkhill as it is listed under there in the 1911 census. Would I be right in assuming then any RC marriages would be conducted in Jonesborough parish?

Thanks
Eoin

Carrickbroad townland is located about 9 miles (c14km) south of Newry and very close to the railway and at the border with Co. Louth.

see : Newry to Carrickbroad  (Google maps)

The civil parish for Carrickbroad is Killevy, which was covered by two RC parishes - Killeavy-Upper (Cloghue) and Dromintee.

The RC parish of Faughart covered Jonesborough and is also very close by, and it also covered areas in Co. Louth.

The boundaries of these RC parishes may have altered over the years.

Greetings. My great grandparents listed their place of birth as Carrickbrode/Carrickbroad. They were married on May 16, 1911 at the Roman catholic Church of Jonesboro in the Registrar's District of Meigh in the Union of Newry in the County of Armagh.

You don't state a surname.
My Great Grand Parents owned Carrickbreda / Carrickbroad.
They were Johnston's.

Are you related or know of the family?
