Methodist chapel, Toxteth
« on: Saturday 02 June 12 22:52 BST (UK) »
Hi there

My gt-grandfather married in 1873 in Park Place Chapel, Toxteth Park, "according to the rites and ceremonies of the Methodist New Connexion" - the witnesses were a Wesleyan missionary and his wife.

But when I tried to find this on Google, I get confused - as the obvious place of worship on Park Place would appear to be a Catholic church!

Can anyone point me towards the right place? Ta :)

St Patrick's Roman Catholic Chapel
Park Place
Toxteth

This large chapel stands on Park Place and was
built between 1821 and 1827 to designs by John Slater.. For all its severity and absurdity, St
Patrick's has become a famous and much loved Park Road landmark.
There were two small chapels between St Patrick's and Warwick
Street. Park Place Chapel was built on Park Road in 1833 by a strong
and active congregation of New Connexion Methodists who later
founded a chapel on Stanley Road. The small Hyslop Street Chapel
behind Park Place was built by the Wesleyan Methodists in the mid-
nineteenth century. It was later extended and used by a number of
Presbyterian congregations, either as a chapel, or as a mission hall.
The site of both chapels is now occupied by new housing.

Hi
I'm also confused but about (perhaps) another Methodist Chapel.
My Hubert Charles Parry 1882-1915 (sadly killed in action at Cuinchy, France in WWI) was baptised at the Princes Albert Methodist Chapel, Toxteth Park on 5 June 1881.
I can't find any reference to this chapel.
Can anyone please help?
Best Regards
Rob

Many thanks Claire, that's a wonderful picture. Hubert Charles Parry was my great uncle, he was married to the sister of my paternal grandfather - she was Lillias Bather 1886-1975.
They married on 4 feb. 1913, and then, two years to the day, poor Hubert was killed in Cuinchy. He is buried in the Windy Corner, Guards Cemetery, Cuinchy, France.
I'll send you a PM as I have some interesting info on Hubert.
Best regards
