Clancy/Kane
« on: Sunday 03 June 12 21:06 BST (UK) »
Any info on Joseph Clancy and Ann Kane both born in 1868/1869 and married about 1890?  They lived in Rahan and had 12 surviving children.  I believe Joseph was a sacristan in the local church.  Ann was from Tobar, Clara. I am trying to go back before them.

Thanks

Have you found Joseph and Ann on the 1901 and 1911 census returns ?

A good place to start would be with their marriage cert, as this will show you their residences at the time, and also details of their fathers, and witness to the marriage.

Is this your Clancy family ?

They are living at Kilpatrick townland

  Clancy house - 1911

I dont see the family in 1901 - but if they lived in the same area then, and at the time of marriage, then there is this possibility on the BMD Index :

  Name: Joseph Clancy
  Registration district:   Tullamore
  Event type: Marriage
  Quarter and year: Apr-Jun 1890
  Volume: 3 / Page: 441

a matching entry appears for an Anne Keane...  there's also an Ann Walshe on the same page

Yes I saw the entry in the 1911 census but did not find them in the 1901 one.  Rahan is in the Tullamore district and I have seen the Anne Keane spelling before.  I am not in Ireland so I have no access to the register.  Is ordering one the only way to view the contents?

There's no public access to the civil registers - you have to order a cert to see the details.

Have you had any luck with obtaining information about any family prior to Joseph Clancy?
My family are Clancys from Offaly as well ... but I don't have much information. I visited Joseph and Anne's grave in Rahan when I was there in May of 2016 since they may be family.

My ancestor is Patrick Clancy, born about 1816 ... he emigrated to the USA. But I haven't been able to find any information on him or his family. Just his family in the USA.

Thanks!!!
