Frederick Guard missing in 1851/61
« on: Sunday 03 June 12 21:39 BST (UK) »
Hello,
Can anyone find Frederick Guard b. 1837 Broadstairs, Kent in 1851 and 1861.  In 1841 he's with his parents and siblings in Christchurch, Hampshire and in 1871 he's in Salford with his wife Emily and their two children. He married Emily in Lambeth in December in 1858.
Thanks.   :)

Sorry Hugs I disagree with your transcription
1861
The image is very faint -I read it as
Park Place Christchurch Hampshire
Frederick Guard head M 23 Photographic Artist (quite clear- not Photographer's assistant) Broadstairs Kent
Emily wife 21 (no occupation entered) Woolwich Kent
Henry J W son 10months Southampton hampshire
RG9 666 120 12

If we just copy a transcription we are infringing copyright.
Mods used to remove posts which they thought were not our own transcription - but are a little bit lax about it now - but I don't think the copyright rule has changed??

Transcriptions should be our own work

I was under the impression that we could not just copy and paste, but that we could put in the details as we found them on the index, providing we included the census reference as quoted.  By quoting what I found, it explains why searching for Guard didn't come up with anything.

If I've misunderstood the rules, then I apologise to the moderators.

Hugs  :)

Hi,
Its such a delicate issue
We are allowed to copy and paste a small portion of a census image or document - e.g. a name if we are having difficulty reading it - I think!!!!
It really is a very grey area -there is information about it somewhere on RootsChat
I have been guilty of copyright infringment before
I just don't want RootsChat to get into trouble
Please don't think I was "being cross" with you - you do some great look ups and I just wanted to help you

keep up the good work

Hi

The reference is as Suz has given it, RG9 Piece 666 Folio 120 Page 12.   ;)

We must do our own transcriptions from the image.

Thanks for finding Frederick in 1861.  I looked for him under Wood on Genes Reunited and that's definitely him.  I'll have to ask the people at Genes R. to put that right.  I wonder if he might be in Christchurch in 1851 then.  I've found some descendants of his in Canada.  I wanted to fill in the blanks before I pass on information to them. Frederick is my great x3 Uncle.  Thank you.  :)
