I found a possibility for his parents and siblings in 1851 - they were in Devon - but frederick was not with them

So that's two census sources that have them as Wood  ::)

The writing isn't too bad but the census sheet is very poorly photographed; I think if it was more in focus then transcriptions would have been more accurate in this case.

Thanks. I tried Guard with 'starts with' and Wood and Curd but I still can't find him.... ::)

Should have added I can't find him in 1851 with those searches and yes the photo of the 1861 page looks out of focus.   :)

Was Frederick the son of James the coastguard and Elizabeth / Eliza?  I wonder if he just got missed off the page in 1851?  (HO107 1895 549 22)
