Please does anybody have information about two ladies called Caroline Christian from Emperingham, Rutland. One born 1851 and one born 1844 - mother and daughter? They are on the 1851 census.

Have you got these dates right - I can see some Caroline Christians in Empingham on 1851, but none have those birth years, although one is near  1815

1851 - all born Empingham. John is a farmer of 200 acres, the non family members are servants

John Christian         45
Caroline Christian    34
Betsey Christian            9
Caroline Christian    7
Fanny Christian            6
John Christian            5
Mary Christian            2
Sarah Wilson         15
Nathaniel Corby         17
Henry Clare                 23

Unlikely to be mother and daughter. You have indicated a 7 year age difference. Aunt and niece perhaps?

There is a possible baptism for a John Christian @ Empingham, 22 Dec 1807, s/o John + Frances. Also, a little earlier William s/o John + Frances, 10 Dec 1805.

Thankyou for looking these up for me. I wondered if Caroline has a grave but I suppose they were too poor.

Thankyou for looking these up for me. I wondered if Caroline has a grave but I suppose they were too poor.

Think a grave is quite possible. 200 acres was a tidy holding in those days. In 1891 she's with her daughter Mary and son in law Samuel Dineage in Lincoln, described as living on her own means, so by no means a pauper. 1881 she's with young Caroline and husband John Ireson, who are keeping a pub

This looks like her death

Caroline Christian
Date of Registration  Jul-Aug-Sep 1892
Age at Death 79  [ie b abt 1813]
District  Lincoln

Thankyou for all the information. I wish I'd known she'd been in Lincoln when I visited there not so long ago!
