Sorry, I have just come across your post. Thomas Turner (1808-1869, coal miner) and Jemima Hill (Jan 19 1806?-Aug 29 1973) had, I believe, 8 children--Thomas (b. Mar 17 1833), Sarah Ann (b. Nov 9 1834), James (b. Mar 5 1837), Joseph (b. Jun 14 1840), Mary Ann (b. Jun 11 1843), John (b. Mar 31 1850), Louisa (b. Jan 1851), and Hannah. I am descended from Hannah (Nov 17 1845-early 1870s). She married William Smith (Jan 3 1833-early 1870s), son of William Smith, a miner, on Nov 13 1864. They resided in various places in Staffordshire. William Smith was a steel roller. They had two children, William Albert Smith (Aug 2 1865-May 5 1920), born at Tipton, and Louisa A. Smith (Oct 7 1867-Jul 5 1942) born at Tunstall. The children were minors at the time of their parents death and were placed in a home for orphans. I have not specifically located the death records for William and Hannah. There is a death record from Nov 9 1871 for a Hannah Smith, wife of a forgeman, William Smith, but the age does not match. I have not confirmed the family in the 1871 census. When she was reached her majority, Louisa was sent to Canada as a servant, arriving on 26 Jul 1884. Family legend says that William stowed away on the same ship. Louisa later married a man named Loring and lived in Toronto, Canada until 1907, when she moved to Rock Island, Illinois. William, my ancestor, moved to the USA and married Elizabeth Carrie McGinnis (Sep 15 1867-Feb 26 1903) of Rome, New York, on Aug 16 1899. They settled in Rock Island immediately after their marriage. He also was a steel roller and died as the result of spill of molten metal. They had two children, Mary Elizabeth Smith (Aug 17 1900-Oct 18 1986) and William Edward Smith (Nov 24 1901-May 2 1969). Mary Smith married James William Ryan on Mar 16 1920. They resided in Rock Island, Illinois. They had three children, Mary Margaret Ryan (May 11 1920-Sep 24 2006), James William Ryan Jr. (May 5 1926-Jan 14 1998), and Barbara Jean Ryan (Nov 21 1929-Jun 20 2008). The eldest, Mary, married Samuel Robert Holcomb (April 16 1917-April 14 1977) on Jan 4 1942. The marriage lasted only about 3 years. They had one son. She lived in Rock Island until 2001 when she moved to Anaheim, California to be near her son. James Jr. married Dorothy Ann Moellering (Apr 22 1926-Dec 14 2012) on Aug 18 1946. They had three children, two sons and a daughter. They lived in Rock Island. Barabara was married less than a year to Robert Nelson (no info), then to Alvin Emil Hintze (Jul 24 1925-Mar 8 1998). Alvin had a daughter by a previous marriage, and they had one son (lost immediately after birth) and two daughters. Barbara family moved to Tucson, Arizona, in the 1970s. William E. Smith lived in Rock Island and Milan, Illinois. He was initially married to Marie Hansen and had a daughter, Dorothy Alice Smith (1921-?), who moved to Southern California when the couple divorced. Subsequently, he married Mildred H. Work (Dec 12 1907-Oct 12 1985). They had one son who died at birth. I don't know how much of this is relevant to your project, but I hope you find some of it useful. I would be interested in the work you have done in tracing the turner family if you would tell me where I can find it.
