Help needed in finding grave of William Vaughan - Brecon
« on: Friday 08 June 12 14:52 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I hoping that there may be someone who could help me in finding the grave of my great-great-grand uncle William Vaughan, a journeyman Bricklayer from the Oswestry area in Shropshire. He was often away from home a week or more at a time due to his work, which seems to have taken him into the Breconshire area.

He death certificate states he died at Priory Hill House, Brecknock, 3rd September, 1919, aged 65yrs.

I have it on family information he was buried in Breconshire and not in Shropshire - so perhaps he was buried in the locality of Brecon? I know there is Brecon cathedral opposite Priory Hill.
He may not have a gravestone as the family didn't seem to have much money - but something like a burial record and/or an obituary in the local newspaper would be great to find.

Any help is much appreciated,

Regards,

Edward

Annwyl Edward,
We surveyed the Church graveyards for Brecon in the late 1990s. St.John's
(the Cathedral) was full by 1860. Will check the M.Is for St.David's, Llanfaes. As you have his exact date of death you could search for him in the Municipal graveyard(Camden Rd.) these records held by the "Town Council" a charge if they do the search or free for the d.i.y. Two regional newspapers to search, might be on line=Brecon County Times & Brecs. & Rads.

Hi Garfydd,

Thanks for your reply and helpful information. That eliminates St. John's then - I will try the municipal graveyard like you say and maybe those online newspapers.

I just don't know whether there was a gravestone or not!

Thanks again,

Edward

Annwyl Edward,
No M.I. at St.David's, Llanfaes. Could be buried there but needs to check the burial register.

Thanks for looking Garfydd it's good of you. Anything like a burial record would be something for this elusive William.
