llanllyfni memorial inscriptions
« on: Monday 11 June 12 09:47 BST (UK) »
I was wondering if the MIs of the church cemetry in Llanllyfni have been recorded and published.
Trying to follow an entry in my ggrandmother's birthday book

Robert Griffith  died 14 Sep 1892  No of grave 140.
The church cemetry in Llanllyfni is a possible.
Already spent my allowance for certificates this month so hoping that someone has access to the MIs though there might not be a gravestone.

Hi,

I have the Gwynedd Family History Society list of burials at Salem Chapel, Llanllyfni and Robert Griffith is not  there.

Grave No 140 relates to a burial in 1873 for a John Evans.

Hope this helps to discount this particular location.

Alan

St. Rhedyw, Llanllyfni has not been published unfortunately. The burial registers are held at the Caernarfon Record Office. There is also a separate register held in private hands which is believed to be for those who were not church members who were buried in the churchyard.

The other possibility is Macpelah Cemetery is Penygroes & Gorffwysfa at Llanllyfni. There is no record of MI's at St Rhedyw (yet). Salem Llanllyfni is interesting as there are many gravestones there that aren't in the Record of Burial so it can be misleading.

Gorffwysfa didn't open until 1904, so that can be ruled out.

If he was who I think he was,it will be  the church  cemetry in Llanllyfni. I was hoping that his parents would be buried there as well. Nothing for it then exept send for a birth or death certificate, cheaper than a trip to Caernarvon !!!! Could get both for the cost of the petrol these days.
Can you please tell me the name of the cemetry behind the Baptist Chapel on the Penygroes Road. I go there every Sul y blodau and have never thought of its name until now. I thought that there were only two cemetries in Llanllyfni, Church and Chapel.

There are five burial grounds in Llanllyfni all told:

1) Gorffwysfa - at the top of the hill.
2) Scots Baptist (known locally as Bara Caws) - half way down the hill on the right.
3) Capel Salem - the large cemetery more or less next door to Bara Caws.
4) St. Rhedyw - on the left at the bottom of the hill.
5) Capel Ebenezer, Felingerrig - on the right just as you come out of Llanllyfni towards Penygroes.

There are a few other burial ground in the area which could feasibly be the resting place of Llanllyfni folk:

1) Macpelah, Penygroes
2) Tai Duon, Clynnog Fawr
3) Capel Brynaerau, Pontllyfni
4) St. Beuno, Clynnog
5) Capel Uchaf, Clynnog
